Welcome to the Lake District Osprey Project
For the second time in 150 years, the wild Ospreys overlooking Bassenthwaite have produced chicks ! And for the first time they had twins
After a tense five weeks the first egg is believed to have hatched on Monday 17th June and the second on Wednesday 19th June. The chicks grew quickly and took their first flights from the nest in mid August. From mid August until mid September they have learnt to fish and fly from their Father. The female adult left first for her winter territory early in September and the male adult leaves next followed by the chicks.

Very close to the Old Sawmill Tearoom, is the viewing area from where is is possible to see the Osprey nesting place, and to actually see these superb birds in flight.
All throughout 2002, visitors have been able to see via a web cam scenes such as the one below.
A similar project will be carried on in 2003, as it is hoped the birds will return to nest.
